The Cancun Billfish Classic’s tournament format awards points for each verified billfish release. The minimum weight requirement is 225 pounds for Blue Marlin. All White Marlin and Sailfish are required to be released to ensure that many more fish are released and available to fight again in future tournaments. The Cancun Billfish Classic is one of the five legs of the IGT Mexico Tournament Series and is also a World Billfish Sanctioned Event. Teams that finish in first and second place in the Cancun Billfish Classic earn a free entry and join 12 other teams at the $250,000 IGT Grand Championship. The Grand Championship is a made for TV Event with a winner-take-all format scheduled for December 10-13, 2008.
